Training Safe and Playfully
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a hobby. Yes it's a martial art, but unless you are training for law enforcement or the military, BJJ will be a hobby for you. It is a very healthy and dynamic hobby which will give you amazing benefits like improved fitness, mobility, flexibility and self defense. However, just like any hobby or passion you pursue, if you don't enjoy it, you will stop doing it. While we do train hard, we also never lose sight of the idea that training BJJ should be fun. Treating your training playfully is a great way to increase your longevity in this amazing art. At MKG CLE we stress training safe over all else.
We also realize that not everyone will have the same physical capabilities. We all train within our own personal limits and gradually work at expanding those limits. We don't train BJJ to simply "tap" out others. We train to better ourselves as human beings. Comparing your athletic ability or skill level to others in the room is not what we do. Trying to be the toughest guy on the block is not what we do. Training playfully while growing in this art that we love...that is what we do at MKG CLE.
Training as a Team
At MKG CLE we have a saying that goes for all our classes - We train WITH our partners, not ON them. All students at MKG CLE are part of the same team. By helping our fellow teammates grow and improve, we all improve. All higher ranking students at MKG CLE are obliged to help the lower rank students grow. The higher ranking students are their to help elevate the newer less experienced students, so they too may grow.
