Student Progression
All of the arts we teach at MKG Cleveland have been organized into levels of progression. The level progression system is designed to make it easier for students to organize the vast amount of information they will learn while in class. If they so choose, students can test for advancement through the level system in the following arts: Thai Boxing 1-10, Panantukan 1-10, Jeet Kune Do 1-10, CSW 1-10 and Kali 1-10.
It is extremely helpful to view your time studying at MKG Cleveland as a journey. The arts we teach can be studied for a lifetime. The education you will gain by training at MKG Cleveland is something that you can continue to expand upon your entire life!

Learning any new skill is a step by step process. Every school has it's own paradigm of how they instruct their students. At MKG Cleveland, we focus on guiding students through the following 5 stage of development.
1. Self Improvement
2. Self Confidence

Self Improvement
When you first start training at MKG Cleveland your primary focus will be on general self improvement. Improving attributes such as coordination, balance, endurance, control and dexterity. Development of these attributes will help facilitate your ability to learn and progress through the arts. Without these basic attributes, you could know every fancy move out there, but never be able to put them to use. So, initially the student should not be concerned with the combative nature of the arts and should primarily focus on improving themselves and learning the basic movement patterns.
Self Confidence
The next phase of development is self confidence. The student now has a more well rounded and healthy set of personal attributes. He or she has increased their overall fitness level and has begun to learn the basic movement patterns of the arts we teach. The understanding of simple offensive and defensive tactics is starting to develop. It's at this point that the student begins to gain a measure of self confidence. This self confidence will go beyond the arena of combat and will help the student in their daily lives. Seeing yourself grow in the arts taught at MKG Cleveland is an amazing experience and will impact your life in so many other positive ways then you will realize at first.
Self Defense
At this stage of the student's development, they now have a very strong understanding of how to properly defend them self in a wide variety of dangerous situations. A solid and comprehensive offensive structure has also begun to develop. Because the arts we teach are so diverse, the student will know how to defend them self versus standing strikes, on the ground and versus a variety of weapons. Self defense is not the sole focus of what we teach but it is one of the many benefits you will acquire as you delve deeper into your study of the arts.
Self Expression
This is one of the most exciting stages of development as a martial artist! After the student has gained a high level of skill in a variety of different martial arts they can then begin to develop their own personal expression of the martial arts. The beauty of Jeet Kune Do is that it allows the practitioner to tailor the art to their personal set of attributes. The way one person expresses Jeet Kune Do can be vastly different then their fellow students, based on their strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. This is what separates us from traditional martial arts. The freedom to research, experiment, create and develop your own art is a hallmark of Jeet Kune Do!
Sharing the Arts
Sharing the arts you have learned is not only a very fun way to continue your development as a martial artist, but it is also incredibly rewarding! This is how our arts continue to propagate and grow. This may seem like one of the final stages of development as a martial artist, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Once you start to share the arts you have learned you will quickly realize how vast the arts we teach really are and how little you really know about the arts as a whole. Learning the arts found in the MKG International curriculum is a journey that allows for development and growth over your entire lifetime!
